Research by John Hattie has long since proven that making learning visible has a significant impact on student achievement, but how can we incorporate it into the English language classroom? In this interactive and practical session, we’ll explore a range of visible learning strategies that help drive student development, autonomy and successful learning outcomes. Using examples from the National Geographic Learning series Outcomes Third Edition to illustrate the strategies, teachers will come away from this session with practical ideas for their classroom.

Alex is a DELTA trained teacher trainer with over 20 years’ experience of working in ELT as a teacher, teacher trainer and academic director. He has presented in over 50 countries throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America. There’s no denying that digital technologies have transformed English teaching in recent years, especially in the field of assessment. However, while much of that focus has been on summative assessment, digital platforms offer expanded opportunities for continuous, formative assessment that allows educators to tailor their teaching and respond more effectively to their students’ needs. In this interactive session, we’ll explore the benefits of digital tools for formative assessment and how they can be used effectively to monitor student and class performance. You’ll learn how to leverage the power of an online platform to gather data-driven insights that help you transform your teaching practice and drive student progress.

Alex Warren is a DELTA trained teacher trainer with over 18 years’ experience of working in ELT as a teacher, teacher trainer and academic director. He has presented and run workshops and webinars on a wide range of topics in over 35 countries throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. OVERVIEW

The role of the teacher is multi-faceted – not only do we have the responsibility of developing our learners’ language knowledge and skills, but also the cognitive, social, and interpersonal skills they need in order to be successful in school, work, and life in the 21st century. Not least is the need to get our learners to start thinking for themselves and asking questions. Using examples from National Geographic Learning’s Academic series Reflect, this session will cover how to incorporate visible thinking routines into English lessons to develop our students’ cognitive skills and stimulate meaningful discussion involving all students.

OVERVIEW

With a move to online learning in recent months, the value of the digital coursebook represented through Classroom Presentation Tools has never been higher. However, not only do they help facilitate the online learning space, but the face-to-face classroom too. In this webinar, we’ll look at the advantages of using Classroom Presentation Tools and how they can be used to not only enhance lesson delivery, but to transform it. During the session we’ll look at how we can use the different tools – zoom, pens, window-shades – to help involve students more in the learning process and bring lessons to life.

OVERVIEW

When it comes to planning a reading lesson in an online environment, there are some important decisions that need to be made – not least of which is the question “Should I even be doing a reading lesson in my online classroom?”

In this webinar, National Geographic Learning teacher trainer Alex Warren will examine how we can develop our learners’ reading skills both in the online classroom using coursebook material and online content, as well as exploring ways in which we can engage and motivate learners to develop their reading skills outside of it.

OVERVIEW

“The times they are a-changin’” sang Bob Dylan back in 1964. And just as they were changing back then, we now find them changing again with the teaching landscape hastily being moved online. So welcome to the brave new world of online teaching, where many teachers find themselves in unchartered territory. But fear not: not only are you are not alone, but a lot of what you already do is transferable to the online classroom. It’s not so much reinventing the wheel, as changing the spokes.

In the second part of this webinar series, teacher trainer Alex Warren will show how you can utilize the tools available in the virtual Zoom classroom to teach a unit of a digital coursebook. This will include a top ten tips for online teaching. We’ll then finish by exploring how you can support students outside of the virtual classroom with additional synchronous course content.

In the first part of this two-part webinar series, National Geographic Learning teacher trainer Alex Warren will start by exploring what to expect when teaching online for the first time, and what exactly is meant by synchronous and asynchronous learning. We’ll then look at what platform options there are for teaching ‘live’ online lessons before examining what tools are available to aid teaching when using ZOOM and how we can use them to engage our learners and keep lessons interactive.

OVERVIEW
Nowadays there is a propensity and expectation for courses to include some elements of online learning, even for young learners. However, once a decision has been made to use an online learning platform or virtual learning environment  there is often a lack of ‘love’ from teachers in using them due to their complexities, reliability and vagaries. But it doesn’t have to be this way. In this session we’ll look at the benefits of using online platforms with young learners and how teachers can use them to increase student engagement, maximize student learning and connect with parents.

OVERVIEW
The young learner classroom has more resources than ever for teaching and learning – audio, video, smart devices, interactive whiteboards, the internet, and more! With so many choices for supplementing our lessons, it can be tough to decide what to use, when to use them, and how to use them effectively.

No matter what materials we choose to work with, though, the need to keep students motivated remains a constant, and what better way to motivate young learners than with games! If we can effectively mix our digital resources with games in our classrooms, amazing things can happen.

In this webinar we’ll discuss how combining games with digital resources is a powerful motivational force in the young learner classroom. We’ll also share ideas and examples of the types of digital resources you can use with games and how best to incorporate them into everyday lessons and classroom routines.

OVERVIEW

Today’s classrooms and today’s learners are more connected than ever. As our learners spend more time engaging with new technology, how can we make sure that the time spent on their devices will lead to better lessons and better learning outcomes? How do we select the right technology tools to improve classroom instruction and motivate learners to express themselves confidently in face-to-face communication?

In this webinar, we will use examples from Learn English with TED Talks to explore how the right technology tools can lead to better comprehension of powerful ideas, and help develop our learners into confident communicators in any situation?
