In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, building children’s Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) has taken on urgency. Understanding and managing emotions, setting and achieving goals, feeling and showing empathy, making and maintaining positive relationships, as well as making responsible decisions — this is all SEL. In 2023, a massive meta-analysis of hundreds of studies on six continents, as reported by the Learning Policy Institute (US), found a long-term, medium-to-large, positive impact of SEL in educational settings. So, how do we leverage all of this in the English classroom? Tune in for an engaging discussion on how to reveal and harness the power of SEL to build children’s skills in ELT spaces.
