OVERVIEW
Teaching very young learners can be very rewarding, and yet it’s also very different to teaching primary school-age or older students. To lead very young learners successfully and productively in class and through project work, we need to take account of the large variations in ability across the VYL age ranges as well as the developmental needs of their whole person. In this session, we will briefly look at some of the typical age-based differences in the physical, socio-emotional and cognitive & language areas. We will also share a lot of best practices regarding what to focus on for your students’ development AND discuss methods and tips for making you successful in the VYL classroom. As much as possible, we will try to show you (not just tell you) how this can be done.
