Helping to develop young learners' ideas on sustainability can be done during English language lessons even when the learners have limited language to work with.  In this model lesson for English teachers using a Pre-A1 level of the Imagine series for young learners, we look at some examples of how we can address sustainability through the lesson content and context to develop positive values around food.  Helping learners understand and apply the idea to a situation allows us to formatively assess their development in areas that will be important in their future lives.

Andrew Tiffany is a Senior Academic Consultant and teacher trainer for National Geographic Learning.  Andrew has over 25 years of teaching experience, 18 of which were focused on teaching and teacher training in Asia.  He has a Masters degree and TEFL certification and has worked with both EFL learners and international school learners from PreK-12, both in English and subject content.
